As a rental housing provider in Saskatchewan, it is essential to have a solid understanding of the laws and regulations that govern the industry.
This is where the Saskatchewan Landlord Association comes in.
By joining the Association, rental housing providers can access a range of resources to help improve their management skills, stay up to date with industry trends, and protect their interests. Whether you’re looking to learn the basics of tenant screening or want to talk to an expert regarding your situation, joining the Association will be an asset in your journey. In this blog, we will explore how we, the Association, can support your growth as a rental housing provider, whether you are just starting or have years of experience. Let’s dive in!
Benefits of Joining the Saskatchewan Landlord Association
Reasons for joining the Association might differ from landlord to landlord, but becoming a member gives you access to the various resources and educational workshops specifically designed to add value whether you own one property or 500+ units.
The resources available to members can be invaluable for developing a strong foundation for successful tenancies. Utilizing these resources and educational workshops, you can gain the knowledge and skills required to manage your rental properties effectively, which can help minimize legal issues, reduce turnover rates, and ultimately increase the profitability of your rental properties. Here is some of what we offer!
Resources
A membership gives you access to the Member Hub where you will find a toolkit full of important documents, such as different types of rental agreements and operating documents.
Education
Becoming a member gets you the ‘member rate’ for the educational workshops, seminars, and webinars the association holds across the province. Topics range from the Annual Rental Market Report, Pest Control, to how to deal with Death, Drugs, and Disastrous Messes. Not only are these educational, but they provide the opportunity for networking with others in the industry.
There is also, the Landlord Ledger, a bi-monthly e-newsletter that keeps you up to date with the latest industry trends and best practices, provides updates on changes to laws and regulations, and guidance on how to comply.
Legal Resources
Navigating the complex legal landscape of the rental housing market can be a daunting task. Fortunately, we can offer some legal support and advocacy to help protect your interests and comply with laws and regulations.
If you have rental questions or concerns, rental experts at the association are available to you through phone and email. We can offer guidance to members and although we are not lawyers, we can help you navigate legal issues, such as eviction proceedings or disputes with tenants, by educating you on your rights as a property owner.
Advocacy
We have a dedicated support team working hard to ensure your needs are met while advocating on behalf of landlord rights and fair legislation at all levels of government. This includes lobbying for landlord-friendly laws and regulations or working with lawmakers to address issues that affect rental housing providers. By working together as a collective, landlords in the province can have a stronger voice in shaping the policies that affect the industry. Check out how the Association is representing landlords here.
Added Bonus
An additional perk of becoming a member of the Association is that The Residential Tenancies Act stipulates that rental housing providers who are active members of the Association are able to increase rent with 6 months’ notice on a month-to-month tenancy agreement instead of the usual, 1 year. How awesome is that!
Just Do It! You won’t regret it!
We encourage all rental housing providers to consider joining the Association and take advantage of the resources developed to help you achieve success. We are here to support your growth and help you stay ahead of the curve in this ever-changing industry. Join HERE today to reap all the benefits. Our Association is here for YOU!
